About Us

On May 25, 1988, the Marine Survival Training Center (MSTC) was established by the Louisiana Board of Trustees for State Colleges and Universities. Construction began in March 1989 and the first class was held in June 1989.

The offshore industry and local community generously donated all of the equipment, services, and start up money for the Center. Lafayette’s proximity to the Gulf of Mexico makes it the ideal location for training offshore and inland waters workers. MSTC has come a long way since 1989.

Aside from survival craft training and underwater helicopter egress training, the facility has expanded to include marine fire safety and much more.
