Proficiency in Survival Craft
 
The purpose of this course is to train personnel in the proper actions involved in taking command of, launching, and handling of a survival craft during an emergency evacuation/abandonment.
 
Any applicant who has successfully completed the 32-hour Proficiency in Survival Craft course will satisfy:
  1. The Survival Craft training requirements of Section A-VI/2 and Table A-VI/2-1 of the STCW Code; AND the training requirements of 46 CFR 12.10-3 (a) (6) for any endorsements as Lifeboatman, provided that sea service requirements are also met
  2. The survival suit and survival craft training requirements of 46 CFR 10.470 for a license as Offshore Installation Manager, Barge Supervisor or Ballast Control Office
  3. If presented within one year of the completion of training, the written and practical examination requirements of 46 CFR 12.10-5 for a Lifeboatman endorsement (exam module 481xx) and the written Survival Craft@ examination requirements for service on vessels not equipped with lifeboats (exam module 441xx or 706xx).

  • Task during abandonment
  • Actions after abandonment
  • Boat handling and seamanship
  • Recovery of lifeboats
  • Performance drills in launching, operating and recovery of lifeboats
  • Rescue boat operations
  • Rowing lifeboat commands and operations
  • Performance drills in rowing operations
  • First Aid
  • Knowledge and Performance evaluations
 
Note: There is a 10-person minimum to hold this class. Additional course dates can be scheduled based on a 10-person minimum.

Tuition: $700      4.0 CEUs
